Richie McCaw makes his way back to being flanker – Super Rugby update
The All Black legend and skipper, Richie McCaw has made his way back to his desired and the most lethal position. Crusaders will be taking over the Stormers this weekend at Cape Town, as Richie McCaw will be rep his trademark position as an open side flanker.
During his rugby career, McCaw has been playing at other positions as well and this season at Super Rugby he showed up at number eight including the last week’s clash. After his recovery from the bruised foot, it was his first appearance against last week,
which he gave against Western force as a number eight.
Crusaders are already seven times titleholders for Super Rugby champions and had already a lot under the belt, but the inclusion of Richie McCaw is still a major boost for the club.
Furthermore, the inclusion of Kieran Read back to number eight is a vital move, as this made McCaw’s presence at flanker possible. Read was resting in the previous two clashes. Ben Franks, who picked up injury last weekend has been replaced by his own brother,
Owen Franks as a tight head prop.
Todd Blackadder, the Crusaders coach believes that the danger is still there, even though his side is strong and the Stormers are not having a good season. He demanded his side to be organized and disciplined for the coming clash. It will be a huge crowd
at the Newlands stadium in Cape town and Crusaders have to keep their game up to the mark.
Blackadder said, “They have a very good defence and are smart on attack too so we'll have to be on top of our game. We probably won't get as many opportunities to counter-attack as we did against the Western Force so we will have to look after possession,
plus we can't afford to give away as many penalties.”
One way or the other, Crusaders have to keep a look out for the traditional Stormers second half comeback and stay vigilant. Blackadder has already warned his side, but in presence of players like Richie McCaw Crusaders will always have an edge.
