Richie McCaw set to boost Crusaders in Super Rugby semi-final: Rugby news
All Blacks skipper, Richie McCaw, is set to re-join the Crusaders in the semi-final of the Super Rugby championships. McCaw, who was suffering from a foot injury, has announced his comeback today on June 27, for the crucial game against the Stormers, in
Cape Town.
The injured star is not completely fit but he is excited to play the match for his side. McCaw has missed a number of matches in the ongoing Super Rugby season due to various injuries.
The Crusaders, who qualified for the semi-finals last week, will be delighted with his return. The Crusaders have missed many key players, including Sonny Bill Williams, Sean Maitland, and the skipper him-self in the round matches of the championship due
to injuries.
Richie McCaw is one of the most capped players for the Crusaders with 108 Super Rugby games under his belt. He joined the Crusaders in 2001 and has been playing for the franchise regularly. He was given command of the Crusaders in 2005 for his dedication
and commitment to the team.
Talking to the media in a press conference McCaw said that he feels his injury has recovered to a great extent and he can participate in the upcoming match. McCaw explained to reporters that he participated in last week’s practice session which encouraged
him to play the semi-final encounter.
He further said that, “It feels all right. It's still not quite 100 percent, but it's certainly a lot better than it was last time I played. Having those couple of weeks off was the right thing to do. Training last week was pretty much symptom free, so I
just need to get through the games now.”
McCaw also praised his side for their brilliant output in the championship despite heavy odds. He hoped that Crusaders will also win the remaining matches of the season. He added that, “We've done that all year, we've been all over the place and not used
any of that as an excuse and this week will be no different.”
The Crusaders, who welcomed Sonny Bill Williams and Sean Matfield in their quarter-final against the Sharks, will enhance their chances to win their eighth trophy with McCaw’s return to the side.
