Richie McCaw to make 2011 debut for Crusaders in Super Rugby
All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw is ready to make his first appearance in Super Rugby Championship of this year for the Crusaders on Friday.
McCaw has missed the seven rounds of ongoing Super Rugby season due to foot injury and his return has made the Crusaders delighted. Their other key player Dan Carter could not recover from his leg injury that struck him in Twickenham clash against the Sharks.
Richie McCaw was cleared to play the upcoming match against the Chiefs on 15th April after he proved his fitness in the practice session. He was suffering from foot injury since the pre-season of the Super Rugby and could play a single match in the championship.
He looked in full swing during the training and selectors decided to include him for their eighth clash of the current season. However, he will be tested again to judge the level of his fitness before the match.
The Crusaders have been outstanding even without the services of their veteran star. They are at the moment on top of the point’s tables with five victories and one draw against the Hurricanes which they cancelled due to the earthquake in their home city
Christchurch.
The rampant campaigners Crusaders are delighted with the return of the star player and hoped that his inclusion would further strengthen the side. Kieran Read who was leading the side in his absence was pleased with his comeback. Read will withdraw from
captainship and McCaw will lead the side from next month.
Read welcomed his return and said. “It's great for Richie to be back on the paddock and great for us as well. He's just going to add to this team. It will take him some time but I'm sure next week he will take that 'c' off me, but it's awesome to have him
back.”
McCaw told the reporters that he feeling great to return to the rugby after the absence of four months. He argued that he was feeling good since couple of weeks that encouraged him to participate in the remaining matches of Super Rugby.
