Richie Porte not confirmed by Team Sky
After having a superb 2012 season, it is rather unfair that cyclists like Richie Porte are not certain of their future.
The Australian is aware of the fact that the Lance Armstrong USADA case has affected almost every professional team in the peloton and Team Sky is no exception.
As many as 26 cyclists recorded their testimony against Armstrong, after they confessed doping previously in their career.
However, leaving all the controversies aside, Porte is hopeful to continue with his existing side, Team Sky for the coming season.
"Personally it was a brilliant year. I started well, wining Algarve, and then I slotted into that team which ultimately won the Tour. What more can you, it was just incredible," Porte told Cyclingnews.
He further added, "People were questioning Bradley's form the whole year but at the end of the day Sky has a pretty good sports science background and we were all sure of where we were”.
“Personally I wasn't in peak form, my best form was probably in February but we went to the Tour with a clear plan and executed it like clockwork", the Australian concluded.
The 27-year-old marked his professional debut with Team Praties in 2008 and spent a period of two-years with the team.
He joined Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank in 2010 and helped the team with several victories throughout his stay with the squad.
Porte accepted an offer from Team Sky in 2012 and performed really well throughout the season with an overall victory and a stage win at the Volta ao Algarve being his season’s highlight.
He finished third at the National Road Race Championships, fourth at the Bayern-Rundfahrt and occupied the ninth overall position at the Criterium du Dauphine 2012.
Richie has shown interest towards riding along the 2012 Tour de France winner, Bradley Wiggins in the new season.
Bernhard Eisel is the only cyclist, who has been confirmed by the British team for three more years after the team announced that all the cyclists will have to sign an anti-doping declaration in order to extend their stay with the British outfit.
It will be interesting to see if Porte manages to make it through the final Team Sky line-up for the season ahead.
