Richie Porte to find his form at the Tour De Romandie
Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins are getting ready to ride in the same team for the next week’s Tour De Romandie.
The duo will be seen in action in Team Sky colours for the coming race, which has strengthened its chances of winning the Swiss event.
However, the young Tasmanian rider in the American side, Richie Porte has briefed that his major goal of the season is the Tour de France.
He told the Sydney Morning Herald, "That's the biggest goal for me, to make that [Sky Tour de France] team".
"It is probably one of the best teams in the world, and it is going to be a hard team to break in to. I guess Sky are investing in me to put me into that team".
The 27-year-old joined Team Sky in 2012 after spending a period of two years with the Danish side, Team Saxo Bank Sungard (2010-11). Porte marked his professional debut with the Australian side Team Praties in 2008-09 seasons.
He will fine-tune his form ahead of the French Grand Tour and will also assist Bradley Wiggins with an overall victory at the race. Richie and Bradley were last seen in action at the Paris-Nice 2012.
The duo rode brilliantly throughout the race and Wiggins became only the second British cyclist to win the French race.
"I get along well with Brad," he briefed. "We race a lot together. I guess that is what they are shaping me and Chris Froome into ... Brad's men for the mountains. It's the first time we have had the two big superstars in the team".
The Tasmanian opened his 2012 winning account at the Volta ao Algarve. He claimed the 3rd stage of the race and also claimed the overall classifications at the event.
Richie also finished 3rd during the National Road Race Championships and is looking good to secure stages at the coming races.
The 66th version of the Tour De Romandie is scheduled from April 24-29, 2012. The race started back in 1947 with Désiré Keteleer as its first winner.
Stephen Roche holds the honour of winning it for a maximum number of three times, while the Australian cyclist Cadel Evans succeeded during the most recent version of the race.
