Richie Ramsay misses the chance of recording three victories in a row for Scotland
At the Johnnie Walker Championship, at Gleneagles, last month, Paul Lawrie thrashed the field and took the title home. The very next week saw another Scottish player, Richie Ramsay, record a victory at the Omega European Masters.
The European Tour then headed to the Netherlands for the KLM Open, where Ramsay came close to another victory, but failed to win the third straight event for Scotland.
Ramsay got off to a slow start on Sunday and recorded a bogey against a lone birdie on the front nine of the Hilversumsche Golf Club.
The back nine of the course witnessed him play some excellent shots, earning him four birdies against a lone bogey for a three-under par score.
In the meantime, Peter Hanson of Sweden also enjoyed a good round and joined Pablo Larrazábal on top of the leaderboard with a 12-under par overall score. However, he still had one hole to play in the tournament.
That was the time when Ramsay had an 11-under par score, heading to the final hole of the tournament.
Hanson got off to a perfect start and found the fairway off the tee. His second shot hit the green and he had a difficult lie on the par-five hole.
However, it did not matter a great deal to him, as he turned in the ball from the edge of the green to sign an amazing eagle on his scorecard.
Meanwhile, Ramsay also had a chance to drain the ball for an eagle. However, it was useless, as he had a three-stroke margin against the Swede. Still, he managed to record a birdie on the final hole and shared the second spot with Larrazábal.
"I birdied three out of the last four which aren’t easy holes, especially under pressure," he said.
"It is a great feeling and I can go away with my head held high. I definitely chased him down. I said to him I gave you a scare there. It’s nice to see him win but I’m massively pleased with my performance and more world ranking points".
He added, "On the last hole I was thinking I could hole my eagle putt and have a little run around the green but he got in first. I didn’t happen for me this week but I’m proud that I gave it a go”.
