Richie Ramsay takes his second European Tour title at the Omega European Masters
Richie Ramsay stormed to a stunning victory at the Omega European Masters, after posting a five-under par 66 in the final round on Sunday, September 2, 2012.
Ramsay started off his final round campaign with a one-stroke lead over Danny Willett and Paul Lawrie.
The front nine of the course witnessed him record five birdies for a 31, followed by even-par score on the back nine, courtesy of an eagle against two bogeys. His final score at the end of the tournament was a 16-under par 267.
“It was just what I needed, and it all came down to the endless hours of practice routines I went through over the winter," Ramsay said about the eagle putt. “Nobody's watching you and it can be a lonely business sometimes, but when you hit shots like that
when you need them most, you know it's all been worth it”.
Overall, the Scot showed consistency throughout the four rounds, en route to his second victory on the European Tour. His first win came in the 2009 South African Open.
“Between then and now I’ve made a lot of big decisions about my career. Today was vindication of that,” he said. “It’s an incredible place to play golf, so to win here is very special. You can get caught up looking at the scenery, but I knew I had a job
to do here today”.
According to him, he had a clear goal in his mind, entering the final round and remained on the right path till the end of 72 holes. He was great with his driver and his putting was among the best in the field.
He also expressed his pleasure on beating some of the best players in the field. He stated that he had a tough competition against Lawrie and Danny, who have shown some promising performances in the past few months.
In the meantime, Marcus Fraser, Romain Wattel, Fredrik Andersson Hed and Willett shared the second spot on the leaderboard, after each scored a 12-under par tournament score.
Bernd Wiesberger, Felipe Aguilar and Lawrie settled further a stroke back and shared the sixth spot.
