The interim team manager of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, Richie Richardson, on Tuesday urged his side to learn from the Indian batsmen and bat the way the Men in Blue did in their first innings, if they are to save the ongoing second Test from the three-match series, underway
at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India, in their first innings of the ongoing Kolkata Test, piled up 631 runs before declaring the match on the second day. In reply West Indies were struggling at 34 for 2 before the umpires removed the bails a bit early due to bad light.
However, Richardson was hopeful that the visitors can fight back and save the match. At the same time he urged the West Indian batsmen to bat at least two days to avoid a second successive defeat in the three-match series.
"We would like to bat the way http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 batted. It's a very good batting wicket. India played exceptionally well,” said Richardson while talking to the reporters at the post day media conference on Tuesday, November 15.
“We would like to bat the same way. But it's not going to be easy as Indian bowlers will put pressure. But we got to make sure that we bat two days," he added further.
The former West Indian skipper said that apparently chasing such a big total seems difficult, but it is not impossible if the batsmen understand the playing conditions and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395 further added that centuries from two of Caribbean
batsmen can strengthen the position of tourists in the match.
Richardson also hailed the experienced Indian batsmen for leading the side from the front with an impressive display.
"The Indians made full use of the very good batting wicket. It's a flat wicket and the Indians have capitalised. It will be tough for the bowlers," he was quoted as saying.
Three of the Indian batsmen – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 - scored startling centuries as India amassed in excess of 500 runs for the first time in the ongoing season.
Richardson also hailed the duo of Dravid and Laxman for the kind of cricket they had played in the first innings. Dravid scored 119 while Laxman returned unbeaten with 176, as India declared their innings at 631 for 7.
