Richmond & Carlton strike up a separate deal...have you heard?!?

This is what i read in The Age (online) today:

Richmond also has had discussions with Carlton about a pre-season deal in which the Blues would give up pick three and perhaps swap picks in return for the Tigers passing on Judd and letting him cross to Carlton, without the Eagles receiving any compensation.

Wouldnt that be sweeeeeet!!

I'm pretty sure Richmond has Number 1 draft pick in the National Draft and 2nd pick in the pre season draft.

I saw something about that, sounds like a bit of collusion to me. The AFL doesn't seem to police the trades like here in America. If Judd didn't go where he was traded or re-sign with WCE, he would have to sit out a year, then he could be a free agent.

Only problem with that is, free agency has ruined the competitive balance of American pro sports, especially baseball. The New York Yankees have some players that are paid more than another team's entire payroll, for instance, the Kansas City Royals, my team. The Yankees lost in the playoffs yesterday, so the big payroll does not always guarantee winning the championship.

The AFL needs to expand it's trade period, all year round except from say from round 16 to after the Grand Final.

For instance, say Lloyd gets hurt again in round six and cannot play anymore that season. Essendon should be able to trade for another full-forward (if the deal can be made) at that time, like trades are done here in America.

they didn't end up that way, carlton traded josh kennedy and picks 3 and 20 in national draft

I think if its a deal like that it has to be a three way deal and West Coast would have to get something from Richmond or the AFL will stamp on it.  There have been plenty of three way deals over time.  What's the highest pick Richmond has by the way?

sorry Rogue, it won't happen, mark my words west coast will take picks 3,20 and josh Kennedy in a one on one deal with Carlton-and I'll bare my Ar$e in Burke st if it goes down any other way,there is more chance of h**l freezing over than West coast getting nothing for the best player in the comp.
