Rick Carlisle looks back at Dallas Mavericks title success – NBA Update
Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle spoke about winning the NBA World Championship at a recent interview after having watched game-6 for the first time on film. Carlisle was at the Red Sox-Rangers baseball game. He threw the ceremonial
first pitch, on the receiving end of which was Rangers manager Ron Washington.
Winning the NBA World Championship has made Carlisle and his players revered figures in the city of Dallas and perhaps in the whole state of Texas. Carlisle thoroughly enjoyed his success on the sidelines with the Mavs and said
it was great to relive those moments on film.
"It's the first time I've sat down and watched it in detail," Carlisle said. He also commented on the thrilling and entertaining nature of the series and the spectacle of the Finals as a whole. "It was such a great series, such
an intriguing series. The level of basketball was so high and so pure. It was an unforgettable 14 days.”
The NBA Finals certainly enthralled audiences the world over with the quality of play on display as well as other factors. The Finals drew the highest ratings in around 10 years as fans tuned in to watch for different reasons.
The Dallas Mavericks, with their history, their likeable players such as Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd, and with their status as underdogs, were cheered on by almost the whole nation. It also had to do with the fact that they were
up against the Miami Heat and their Big Three; LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Miami were arguably the most dominant, yet the most despised team throughout the land last season and NBA fans just loved to watch them lose.
In the end though, it was all about the performance and the story of the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs owner Mark Cuban finally got a ring after entertaining NBA fans and jostling with officials for a decade. Nowitzki and Jason Terry
got their rings after coming so close in 2006, while the veterans Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion also found some silverware as their careers drew closer to an end.
The franchise itself won the NBA World Championship for the first time in history. All in all, it was a great time to be a Mavs fan. Carlisle touched on a lot of those things as he went on,
"There were so many things special about it: how important it was for our fans to have that feeling, Mark Cuban being able to hoist a trophy and put it next to him on the plane coming home and sleep with it and all that."
It goes to show what a close knitted group the Mavs are, from the owner right down to the player and the backroom staff. Their victory was thoroughly deserved.
