Rick Eckstein defends Bryce Harper over making base-running error against St. Louis Cardinals-MLB
Washington Nationals' hitting coach Rick Eckstein supports Bryce Harper over showing aggression in the field and unfortunately getting thrown out.
Harper, during the second game against the St. Louis Cardinals made a base-running error, over which he invited criticism after the game.
Apart from the error, he was not up to the mark at the plate. In fact in both games played so far in the playoffs, he is struggling to unleash what he is capable of.
Harper has been a main run contributor for the Nationals in the last few months in the season.
He has been striking home-runs on a consistent basis. Along with Jayson Werth at the top of the line-up performs the role of loading the bases in the beginning of the match and making the task of posting sufficient number of runs on the scoreboard easy for
the rest of the batters.
In the first two matches in the post-season, most of the Nationals’ batters have not performed up to their potential. Both Michael Morse and Werth have yet to show their offensive strength at the plate in the playoffs.
Similarly Harper will be looking to demonstrate his heroics in the big matches ahead and help the Nationals in posting a great number of runs on the scoreboard.
Undoubtedly, Harper has the credentials to spearhead the Nationals’ offence and shine in the crucial matches ahead.
If he can hit two home-runs in one game during the regular season, there is hardly any reason why he cannot replicate such a performance in the playoffs.
He will be heading into the next matches with positive approach and making sure he does something substantial offensively.
Defending Harper’s base-running error in the match, Eckstein has stated that he was in an attacking mood and that is why he committed the mistake.
"We don't classify that as a mistake," Eckstein said. "It was an aggressive move. Davey's style is to be aggressive. That aggressiveness that Bryce has is a great thing. He definitely energizes you. He's not afraid to bring it and that's good."
Fans will be looking forward to see Harper standing out in the upcoming matches and playing an important role in the victories of the Nationals.
