Rick Gibson and Porpong Phatlum tied at Clearwater Masters – Asian Development Tour
Two days of the Clearwater Masters sanctioned by Asian Development Tour finally concluded yesterday. The event, which is being hosted by the par-72, Clearwater Sanctuary Golf Resort, produced some exciting results during the second day.
Two players share the top honours after the second day concluded. Pornpong Phatlum of Thailand and Rick Gibson from Canada share the lead after 36-holes are completed. They have a two-day aggregate score of six-under par, 138 and lead the field by a margin of just one stroke.
The experienced Canadian Gibson played some excellent golf shots during his second round. He posted a great composed round of four-under par, 68 and jumped on the leader board. His score card showed six birdies and only made two bogeys. Gibson showed his class and brilliance on the course by playing some excellent golf shots.
Gibson, who is 49-years-old, also won the 1991 Malaysian Open. He now shares the lead after two rounds and is confident of winning another victory on the Asian circuit after a long time.
The lowest round of the second day was carded by the local lad, Shaaban Hussin, of Malaysia. He carded a seven-under par, 65 which was the best round of his career. His score-card showed all seven birdies and was bogey-free for the day. Hussin played exceedingly well during his round and looked confident by attacking the pin placements.
Hussin has a two-day aggregate score of five-under par, 139 and shares the third spot.
Somkiat Srisa-nga of Thailand had the first ace of the tournament. He had a hole-in-one on the par-3, 7th where his seven iron landed on the green and rolled inside the hole. He carded a round of three-under par, 69.
Somkiat’s ace came at the right time. This earned him a lifetime membership for the host club and also grabbed a cash prize.
Gibson was more than happy with his performance who returned to Asia after a long time. This was a polished performance by him to put up a great display of golf.
After the round, Gibson said, “I felt better with the putter. It has been being nearly four years since I played competitively and my putting hasn’t been like how it was.”
Pornpong of Thailand also played a great round of golf. His score of five-under par, 67 showed that the youngster was completely in great momentum with his swing. The youngster was putting well on the greens and made five birdies during his round.
Third round of the championship will commence today as the players within a few strokes of the leaders will certainly be taking charge during the third round. It will be an exciting day as quite a few youngsters are among the top contenders.
