Rick Nash adjusting to New York with Rangers, optimistic with new team -NHL Update
Making such a huge transition at that point of your career when most people assume that a player’s career is meant to be with one single team and than being traded to another franchise has certainly given Rick Nash a wild ride, but with New York Rangers,
he is adjusting quite comfortably.
New York might be totally different from the cool and calm city of Columbus, Ohio, and a team like Blue Jackets but in order to achieve big things, Nash had to make the move for the team and for his career.
Luckily, his adolescence was spent in and around a city like Toronto, Ontario, Canada, so adjusting to New York should not be hard to do.
"Growing up around Toronto, this is kind of what I'm used to for hockey. It was a bit of a change playing in Columbus." Nash said.
Leaving his original draft team, Columbus Blue Jackets, after spending nine years there was definitely not easy ever since he was picked up as the first overall player. He certainly wanted to win over there, but unfortunately, four playoff games in nine
seasons is just a major disappointment.
"I would've definitely hoped to win there a lot more, play more than four playoff games in a nine-year career, but the reality is it didn't happen and the plan didn't pan out like I wanted it to," Nash said. "I think the positive is for me to end up in New
York in one of the most historic organizations. I think every kid dreams about playing for an original-six [team]. I don't think there's a better place than here for me."
Surprisingly, San Jose Sharks also emerged as one of the bigger players in the race for Rick Nash, but could not acquire the player due to the lack of money the player demanded part of his huge eight-year, $62.4 million contract.
With a new city and new team, Rick Nash and New York Rangers are confident of a new beginning and hopefully topping the playoffs like they did Eastern Conference last time around.
It will definitely be exciting to see the former captain and make a change in the already star studded franchise.
