Rick Nash might find trouble with fans in remaining part of season with Columbus Blue Jackets - NHL News
It was known long before that Captain Rick Nash’s time at the Columbus Blue Jackets was nearing an end soon with the franchise unable to reach the heights demanded by their best player.
However, in shocking news general manager Scott Howson had revealed on Monday that it was not the franchise that were willing to trade their best player to restructure the squad, but Nash himself who after nine-seasons with the franchise that drafted him
and becoming the idol of Columbus’ fans had wanted out.
In his latest interview with the media, Nash looked uncertain how the latest news of him wanting out of Columbus will be taken by fans and the reaction he will get from the same people who idolised him till now.
"I'm not too sure what to expect. I've been with these fans my whole career here. I love them no matter what. They're a great fan base, loyal. They've been patient with this organization and with this team. No matter what the reception is I'll always have
a soft spot in my heart for our fans."
Nash’s performances this season have remained brilliant even though around him the whole team was not good enough.
The Blue Jackets are bottom of the Western Conference with 18-38-7 record and just 43 points.
Columbus’ captain, has scored 22 goals and created a further 22 assists this season even though the Blue Jackets rank near the bottom both in offence and defence.
Nash in the interview took part in some damage control as he tried to placate fans by saying that till the time he wears the Blue Jackets jersey he will give his all in each game.
"As of right now I'll wear this jersey with pride, like I always have. I've always played my heart out for (the owners). And I will continue to do that as long as I'm a Blue Jacket and I'll play my hardest for the fans as well."
With his outburst it does not seem that Nash will remain with Columbus for long and will likely be traded to another franchise at the end of the season.
Till that time though Columbus’ captain will still have to stick around and will have to face every insult the fans throw at him.
The Blue Jackets will face two games on the road before returning to the Nationwide Arena on Tuesday, March 6th to face the Phoenix Coyotes, where Nash will find out exactly what the fans think of his wish to jump ship.
