Rick Porcello’s dominant pitching helps Detroit Tigers defeat Minnesota twins, 10-2: MLB Update
Detroit Tigers’ starter, Rick Porcello, did an outstanding performance as he pitched five solid innings in the Tigers’ 10-2 victory against the Minnesota Twins at the Target Field in Minnesota on May 10.
Porcello gave away just one run on three hits including one earned run. He walked two and had one strike-out.
Porcello said of his game, “I want to follow suit with that. I want to do my job. Just watching them attack guys and get guys out I think kind of rubs off on everybody. I'd throw some pitches probably every 10 or 15 minutes to make sure that I wasn't going
to tighten up and that I could go back out there.”
The score-card remained empty in the first inning for both sides. Jhonny Peralta struck a two-run homer during the second inning to initiate the scoring campaign for the Tigers and led off his team with 2-0. It was considered as the third homer for Peralta
during this season. Scott Sizemore added two runs in the third inning including an RBI single and extended the Tigers’ lead to 4-0.
Austin Jackson also had an equal contribution in his team’s lead as he went 2-for-5 and singled on the sacrifice bunt of Magglio Ordonez, who was unable to reach at the first base and got out. The Tigers got a 5-0 lead at the end of fourth inning. On the
other side, the Twins were score-less till the fourth inning due to impressive pitching of Porcello.
Casper Wells singled towards the right field in the fifth inning to go-ahead the Tigers a little bit. Rene Tosoni broke the silence for the Twins as he struck a one-run homer in the fifth inning to lessen their trail to 6-1. The sixth inning passed away
scoreless for both teams. Victor Martinez had an exemplary season so far as he pushed the lead in the seventh inning when he scored two runs on two RBI hits.
The Tigers’ Manager, Jim Leyland, was pleased with his team performance. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I'm not one to get that excited about stuff like this, but we're playing better. I think we're showing signs that we're a good team, and we'll see.”
For the Twins, Tosoni was the only player who was able to put a run on score-board. During the seventh inning, he took an RBI single to cut-off their deficit to 8-2. The Tigers’ batters were on top throughout the game as they took a 10-2 lead in the eighth
inning when Miguel Cabrera singled on his third hit and Brennan Boesch drove a shot off the left field to complete one run.
Francisco Liriano was too much expensive with the ball as he permitted four runs on three hits with four earned runs in three innings pitches.
