Rick Viers named new crew chief for Rusty Wallace Racing no. 62 team – NASCAR news
Rusty Wallace Racing has announced the addition of Rick Viers as a new crew chief for the no. 62 car driver Michael Annett’s team.
It was all done in order to improve the on track performance of Rusty Wallace Racing.
Wallace said, “Rick Viers' ability to lead and be successful in the Nationwide Series is well documented. We're looking forward to adding his knowledge and experience to our toolbox at Rusty Wallace Racing. I look forward to good things from that team.”
Several changes have been for the no. 62 Toyota team of Annett out of which Viers is the most important one. The eight-time Nationwide Series winner, Viers has arrived to RWR after working for Roush Fenway Racing no. 16 Ford team which featured in the last
season. Before joining RFR, Viers did lead the Baker Curb no. 27 team and driver Greg Biffle.
He has also worked as a team lead for Red Bull Racing’s no. 84 team in 2007 and 2008 for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He also played the role of crew chief for Richard Childress Racing’s Nationwide Series operations comprising drivers Kevin Harvick and
Clint Bowyer.
Along with Rick Viers, the former no. 62 crew chief Jason Overstreet will now be supervising RWR’s no. 64 Toyota which is driven by David Reuitmann and Jason Bowles. Overstreet is expected to head the team in a stable manner with his inspiring leadership.
Wallace while commenting on the changes made in the team’s garages, said, “As for the No. 64 team, we started it to improve our whole organization and Jason Overstreet is a big part of our team. We've been staffing the No. 64 car with a variety of team members,
so having someone with Jason's ability to oversee that car will definitely help our effort.”
The changes made in the team’s staff are meant to get more high quality performance and determination from Rusty Wallace Racing.
