Rick Violette in two minds over Carried Interest’s next start
William H. Lawrence, and Klaravich Stables’ 2-year-old Carried Interest’s next start is still in limbo according to trainer Richard Violette, but he could possibly start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint at Santa Anita Park on 2 November, 2012, over a
distance of 6 furlongs on dirt, and will face a field that will pose a mild challenge to the juvenile colt.
With 2 career starts under his belt, Carried Interest is yet to prove a lot as a juvenile going on to his sophomore campaign, but for the time being he has done more than his trainer, Richard Violette could ask for.
Bred in Kentucky by Nesco II, Carried Interest was an out-and-out in his maiden special weight race, which he broke at first asking defeating Palace Malice in second and Horsepower in third with the winning time of 56.62 seconds on 5 July, 2012, at Belmont
Park going 5 furlongs under jockey Alan Garcia.
The juvenile colt by Henny Hughes was expected to give a solid performance in his next start in the Grade 2 Futurity Stakes at Belmont Park, where he was slightly stretched out in distance to 6 furlongs, ran a solid race indeed, but got humbled by, Overanalyze,
in the dying stages of the race, and finished second on 20 September, 2012.
Rick Violette was unsure even when Carried Interest turned in a strong gallop at Aqueduct race track on 18 October, and is yet to make his mind over two options.
Carried Interest is either going to run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, or he could go to Aqueduct and run in the Grade 2, $200,000 Nashua Stakes on 4 November, 2012.
“Still on the fence,” Violette said. “We have to pre-enter Monday. I think he’ll benefit from today. The door is still open for both places.”
There is a little matter of purse money, and Rick Violette might leave his decision on exactly that at the end of the day, as Carried Interest will earn more if he goes to run in the Nashua Stakes, which will make him eligible for a $100,000 bonus that NYRA
awards to runners, who win their maiden races in Belmont’s spring season.
