Rickie Fowler commits to play the CIMB Classic next month
Rickie Fowler will be flying to Malaysia for the second time in his professional golf career, in a bid to participate in the CIMB Classic, at The MINES Resort & Golf Club, from October 25 to 28, 2012.
He is no doubt one of the prominent names who have confirmed to compete this year at the $6.1 million event – co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour.
The American is currently enjoying the best of his form on the PGA Tour. Last year, he defeated the current world number one Rory McIlroy in the OneAsia Tour's Kolon Korea Open.
He then entered the 2012 season with an aim of securing his debut victory on the PGA Tour, which he achieved by taking down McIlroy in the playoffs of the Wells Fargo Open.
The very next week witnessed him almost record his second victory in a row, when he tied for the second position in The Players Championship.
His good form on the tour also earned him a place in the limited field of the Tour Championship by Coca-Cola last week. It was his first ever appearance in the final tournament of the US PGA Tour Playoffs.
He now plans to keep the form going into next month’s CIMB Classic, which is set to feature some of the prominent names from both the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour.
Tiger Woods, Nick Watney, Jason Dufner, Ben Crane and Bo Van Pelt are to name a few, who have already confirmed to participate in the event this year.
"One of the best parts of being a professional golfer is the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures and amazing parts of the world, and Malaysia is no exception,” Fowler said.
“I love Malaysia and am really looking forward to playing in the CIMB Classic next month. I played well there in 2010 and enjoyed everything the course and the entire country had to offer. I can't wait to go back," he added.
In 2010, Fowler made his debut in the tournament and made a strong finish in the end – he tied for the fifth position.
This year, he is confident to improve his track record and look forward to taking home his second PGA Tour title.
