Rickie Fowler eyes first victory on the PGA Tour at the Wells Fargo Championship - Golf News
Rickie Fowler fired a six-under par 66 in the opening round of the Wells Fargo Championship to share the fourth spot on the leader board, on Thursday, May 3, 2012.
Fowler is in search for his first ever PGA Tour victory at the Quail Hollow Country Club.
He has recorded two top-10 finishes so far on the PGA Tour in 2012.
In the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, he tied for the 10th position after carding a 13-under par tournament score.
He is confident to make a good run in the tournament that he’s scheduled to play this year.
He believes that he can foresee a time when he will be holding a PGA Tour trophy in his hands.
"Everything kind of has to fall into place," Fowler said. "It's tough to put 72 holes of great golf together. The last couple weeks I've been hitting the ball well and putting myself in position. I wouldn't be surprised if a win is just around the corner".
Fowler carded a total of four birdies and an eagle to record a bogey-free round that must have threatened his rivals on the course.
According to him, he also has three goals for this year, which includes a PGA Tour win, making it to the Tour Championship, and making it to the Ryder Cup team.
He told that his morale has gone up after watching his best friend, Bubba Watson, win the Masters Tournament last month.
"Just kind of getting to see kind of the moments from outside the ropes and see what was going on coming down the stretch, I definitely took a lot away from it," Fowler said. "(It was) kind of more the feeling that I want to be in that position. Instead
of Bubba winning I want to win. Maybe he'll let me win one soon".
The golf commentators believe that Fowler undoubtedly has the skills and ability to earn him a victory on the Tour this year.
Last year, he defeated Rory McIlroy with a six-stroke margin at the OneAsia Tour’s Kolon Korea Open to earn his maiden professional victory.
