Rickie Fowler posts the worst round of his career at the Memorial Tournament
With a 12-under par 84, the young US golfer, Rickie Fowler was not hoping to finish the final round at the Muirfield Village Golf Club on a poor note, and the sudden rise of Tiger Woods’s form in the tournament made things even more miserable for him.
While making the start on the first tee, he was just three strokes behind the overnight leader, Spencer Levin.
He decreased it to two strokes with a birdie and moved to the second hole to continue his round.
That was the moment when his worse time started as he carded two bogeys and a double bogey on the next three holes he played.
Another birdie on the fifth hole proved to be his last one and then started making bogeys or double bogeys on, at least, every second hole.
In total, he had to sign eight bogeys and three double bogeys that caused him to slip to a lower position on the leaderboard to tie for the 52nd position.
"One of those days," Fowler said. "I made birdie on the first hole and I pulled one on 2 and just kind of got behind the eight ball. I really didn't make that many bad swings. I felt like I hit some pretty solid golf shots”.
"Out here, if you don't hit your number perfectly, within one or two paces, you're either in the bunker with a tough up and down or long on a downslope out of the rough and you're not getting up and down. Going to get a lot of Sundays from now on, some good
ones and some bad ones, and this is not going to be the last bad one".
Golf commentators believe that despite his bad performance, he will move to the Olympic Club as a hot favourite for this year’s US Open because of his recent form on the PGA Tour.
According to them, a single bad round cannot spoil Fowler’s career and he still can bounce back, as he has done in the past.
In the meantime, his playing partner, Woods made a late charge in the round and registered the 73rd PGA Tour victory of his career.
