Rickie Fowler records another top-10 finish on the PGA Tour
Rickie Fowler, a man known for his colourful outfits, carded a one-under par 69 in the final round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational to record his first ever top-10 finish at the Colonial Country Club on Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Despite a strong battle between Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson to reach the top of the leaderboard, Fowler succeeded in attracting a big crowd in the galleries to watch him play.
"It's a lot of fun. A lot of great young fans, and some older fans out there as well supporting,” Fowler said. “It's always fun playing the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A lot of [Oklahoma State] Cowboys around the area. I always enjoy playing here".
He was tied for the fifth position along with four other players at a five-under par tournament score.
Therefore, it also registered the fourth consecutive top-10 finish for Fowler on the PGA Tour.
During the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, he recorded a 13-under par tournament score to tie for the 10th position.
Thereafter, he improved his score by one shot in the very next event and defeated his rivals in the playoffs to record the first ever PGA Tour victory at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Moreover, he was runner-up at the Players Championship, which is also considered as the fifth major event of the year.
"I have a lot of confidence in my game right now, feeling good with it," said Fowler. "I got the monkey off my back. It was nice to get my first win".
While entering the final round at Colonial, he was four-under and went to six-under through 10 holes.
However, a couple of consecutive bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes took him back where he started.
Yet, he did not lose his confidence and recorded another birdie on the 13th, followed by five par putts to end the round on a high note.
With such an impressive performance, he has now jumped to the 19th place in the Official World Golf Rankings and likely to display some good set of skills in the upcoming events on the PGA Tour.
