Rickie Fowler registers another good week at the Players Championship – Golf News
Rickie Fowler succeeded in making another good finish in the second consecutive week, as he carded an 11-under par tournament score in the Players Championship to share the second spot on the leaderboard on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
In the Wells Fargo Championship held a week ago at the Quail Hollow Country Club, he registered the first ever win of his career after defeating Rory McIlroy and DA points in the playoffs.
This week, he kept the momentum going and played really well to finish just two strokes behind the winner, Matt Kuchar.
“It was a very successful week for me, coming off the win and then being that I have not made a cut here before,” said Fowler, who is known for his colourful outfits. “So nice to play the weekend. A lot of fun to be in contention, and tried to give it a
run there at the end”.
According to Fowler, he has been improving real fast for the past few months and trying to remain in contention in each of the tournament he plays.
“I'm swinging it well and I have a lot of confidence in myself and my game right now,” he said. “I feel like I'm managing myself around the golf course and throughout the tournament better, getting myself in the right positions, and not giving away tournaments
and keeping myself in them”.
Many golf commentators believe that he could have done even better in the final round if he had avoided the double bogey that came on the par-four fifth hole.
In total, he recorded six birdies during the final round, which were enough for him to record a win in tournament.
However, it was his double bogey and two bogeys that spoiled his chances of consecutive win on the PGA Tour.
In the meantime, Luke Donald made a great final-round run that earned him the sixth place on the leaderboard.
Donald carded a total of seven birdies against a lone bogey to finish at six-under par 66 that helped him making a 21-place jump on the leaderboard. His overall score was nine-under par 279.
