Rickie Fowler says Bubba Watson’s win in the Masters was an inspiration for him – Golf News
Rickie Fowler has admitted that Bubba Watson’s victory in the Masters Tournament worked as an inspiration for him to go out and earn a victory in the Wells Fargo Championship, last week at the Quail Hollow Country Club.
Fowler defeated Rory McIlroy and D. A. Points with a birdie on the first extra hole, in the playoffs, and the trio tied for the top position by the end of four rounds.
Watson was the first person Fowler called in the evening after his win at Quail Hollow.
"I can definitely give credit to Bubba for motivating me and giving me a kind of kick in the butt to go out and get it done," Fowler said on Tuesday at the TPC Sawgrass, where he moved to participate in the Players Championship.
"It was nice for me to be there when he (Watson) won the Masters and it kind of motivated me a little bit more to want to be in that situation," said the colourful 23-year-old American. "I can definitely give some credit to Bubba for motivating me a bit
and giving me a kind of kick in the butt to go out and get it done".
He also said that Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley are also players that stimulate him because of their great performances in different tournaments, played around the world.
It took 70 PGA Tour events for Fowler to earn the first victory of his career. That is the reason why he believes he cannot become a golfing sensation overnight.
According to him, he needs to focus on bringing consistency in his game and keep the winning momentum going on for upcoming tournaments.
A couple of more wins in upcoming tournaments may earn him the status of being a sensation in the world of golf.
Yet, there is no doubt that the 23-year-old has won the hearts of golf fans and commentators, with his continuous struggle and efforts to reach the top of the leader board at a young age.
Golf analysts believe that we would soon see Fowler, along with McIlroy, as one of the toughest golf rivals.
