The PGA rookie of the year, Rickie Fowler, shot a commercial for the PUMA at the Eagle Creek Golf and Country Club. The 21 year old is in town for the Shark Shoot out which will take place at the Tiburon Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples
from December 8th to December 12th. This tournament, hosted by Greg Norman, has brought 23 world class players to tee off against one another.
Rickie Fowler will be paired with Ryder Cup teammate Bubba Watson. It was surely amazing how the stunt double, the director and the film crew coped with the chilly Naples weather. Fowler was very excited to appear in the commercial and is the second youngest
player after Tiger Woods to become Rookie of the year. Rickie along with being an amazing golfer, harbors interest for competitive motocross as well. The TV commercial focused on the charismatic style that Rickie brings to the tour. It consisted of dirt bikes
and sand flying out of a sand trap.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Eagle Creek to feature one of its greatest assets. Eagle Creek is fortunate to have a golf course that is nestled among mature landscaping making it very photogenic,” James Bohr said. “And what an honor to have Rickie
Fowler here to see what Eagle Creek is all about.”
The club’s general manager, Don Madalinski, said that they really appreciated Fowler stopping by for the commercial. Don has really been trying to make the club famous and now that it’s part of a national advertising campaign, it would definitely be popular.
He is hoping for it to become the most popular premier golf course in Florida. Everyone at Eagle Creek wishes Fowler success in his career ahead.
Rickie’s charm was one of the highlight of this year’s PGA Tour. His hair, his funky style of dressing and his young boy look appealed to many. Many other players, like Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell, think the award should have gone to Rory McIlroy,
though, who was also a rookie on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy has one victory and five top tens this year. Two of which were second place finishes in major championships. Rickie on the other hand had seven top ten finishes. Fowler is 32nd on the PGA Tour money list where as McIlroy is 26th.
Both of them played in Ryder Cup with Fowler playing for America and McIlroy playing for Europe. It is true that McIlroy did win at the Quail Hollow championship this year and is ranked higher, but many argue that he is not really a rookie.
Where Fowler came straight to the PGA Tour from Oklahoma State, McIlroy came to PGA after turning professional in 2007 and playing two years on the European Tour. Rory isn’t really a rookie since he has played professional golf but on a different Tour. McDowell
thinks that being ranked number eleven in the world and doing so well at only 21 is truly an accomplishment.
He said that at the end of the day it is just a title and McIlroy will go on to achieve a lot more. Even though the PGA didn’t give him the honour, he will go on to be a great player and win major championships.
Another possibility for choosing Fowler over McIlroy is that PGA tour players voted for this award and Rory announced that he won’t be playing on the PGA for 2011. Choosing the European Tour over PGA might have made a lot of people biased against Rory McIlroy.
All in all, both these players are amazing. Where two compete, one has to loose and this time it was McIlroy. The new rookie of the year, Fowler, is feeling on top of the world and is looking forward to Tee off at the Shark Shootout.
