Southampton FC striker, Rickie Lambert let out his excitement over his side’s opening game of the 2012/13 campaign against title holders Manchester City, and believed that they will be better of playing against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Mancini’s side earlier on in
the season.
The Hampshire based club earned their promotion back to the summit of English football, after securing a 4-0 win against Coventry City in a Championship match in April, which earned them a second place finish in the table with 88 points. They will mark their
return to the Premier League by taking on the Eastlanders on 18th of August at the Etihad Stadium.
The 30-year old, who was the leading goal scorer in the Championship last season, unravelled his excitement of going head-to-head against the league champions on the opening day. He insisted that they will have a better chance of beating City earlier on,
rather than when they get into their stride as the season progresses.
“There's all kinds of sayings like it's better to get them early and just after the Euros, and who knows what kind of mind-frame they're going to be in, but all that matters is what kind of mind-frame we're going to be in.”
The striker also revealed that he had predicted that his side will be slated alongside the Blue Manchester team in their opener, but admitted that he thought that it would be at their home.
Following their opening day showdown against City, the Saints will square off with Manchester United in their third league game, and will then play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in what appears to be a difficult first month for them upon their return.
However, Lambert was unfazed about taking on the best teams in the Premier League straight away, pointing out that it will provide them with the perfect chance of accustoming themselves as quickly as possible to the challenging demands of the league.
He added, “If I could have picked then I would have taken it because you're playing the best that the Premier League has got to offer straightaway so we'll soon get to grips with it and hopefully we'll surprise a few people by getting a few good results.”
He went on to urge his side to carry on with their astounding form that they displayed last season, and warned them of the tough challenges that lay ahead of them.
