Rickie Weeks’ homer helps Milwaukee Brewers defeat Colorado Rockies 8-7 – MLB Recap
Milwaukee Brewers’ second baseman, Rickie Weeks had a notable day with the bat as he hit two RBIs with a decisive homer and went 2-for-5 in the Brewers’ 8-7 win against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on July 16.
Corey Hart was struck-out swinging, Nyjer Morgan struck-out looking and Ryan Braun grounded out to short-stop position at the top of the first inning. Similarly, the Rockies’ batters also got out by playing slothful shots at the bottom of the first inning
as Carlos Gonzalez was grounded out to second base and Mark Ellis struck-out looking.
The Rockies started their second inning pretty well as they posted three runs to take a 3-0 lead. Dexter Fowler was struck-out swinging but Ian Stewart scored the first run for the Rockies. Fowler added the second run on the double-run shot of Chris Iannetta
towards left-field and the third run was taken by Iannetta when Jhoulys Chacin singled to shallow left-field.
In the third and fourth inning, the pitchers threw score-less pitches and struck-out the batters. The Brewers’ starter, Zack Greinke was little bit shaky as he permitted three runs on five hits in his six inning pitches and pitched the ball with an ERA of
5.04. He walked two and had eight strike-outs on his 107 pitches.
The Brewers posted their first two runs during the fifth inning to reduce their lead 3-2. Hart struck a two-run homer (379 feet) towards left-field and Greinke added the second run for the Brewers. At the top of the seventh inning, the Brewers’ offence blasted
three runs to get a lead when Josh Wilson, Jonathan Lucroy and Hart each singled to end the three-run campaign.
On the other side, the Rockies went ahead 6-5 by posting three runs at the bottom of the seventh inning. Todd Helton, Gonzalez and Eliezer Alfonzo each contributed three runs to give the Rockies an edging lead. The game was tied 6-all during the eighth inning
when Yuniesky Betancourt posted a single run on the grounder of George Kottaras towards the pitcher.
In the ninth inning, Weeks homered (428 feet) to centre-field and Prince Fielder added a single run. However, the Rockies were able to add only one run and ended the game 8-7 when Helton singled off centre-field and Gonzalez scored the last run.
The Brewers managed to keep their hopes alive in the four-game series after getting a convincing victory.
