Rickie Weeks shines as Milwaukee Brewers defeat Cincinnati Reds 5-4 – MLB Update
Milwaukee Brewers’ second baseman, Rickie Weeks was extraordinary throughout the game as he went 2-for-3 and struck a solo homer with three RBIs in the Brewers’ 5-4 win against the Cincinnati Reds at Miller Park, Milwaukee on July 7.
The batters got out in the first inning as Drew Stubbs flied out to right-field, Miguel Cairo also flied out off right-field and Joey Votto struck-out swinging without giving any run. Similarly, the Brewers’ batters also failed in scoring shots as Weeks
reached to short-stop on an infield single but Nyjer Morgan was grounded out to first base and Corey Hart flied out to left-field at the bottom of the first inning.
The Brewers led off with 1-0 during the second inning when Yuniesky Betancourt hit a sacrifice fly off right-field and Prince Fielder scored a single run. At the top of the third inning, the Reds’ batters put one run on the score-board to tie the game 1-1.
Cairo singled to left-field, Homer Bailey posted one run and Stubbs moved to second base at the end of third inning.
The Reds went ahead 2-1 during the fourth inning when Ramon Hernandez drove a single-run shot towards right-centre and Zack Cozart added one run. After a while, Hernandez moved to second base on a throwing error. The Brewers’ batters stepped on the gas in
the fifth inning to explode four runs and got a 5-2 lead.
Weeks struck a three-run homer (408 feet) towards centre-field while Jonathan Lucroy and Chris Narveson both scored two runs jointly. The last run was taken by Hart when Mark Kotsay singled towards right-field. In the sixth and seventh inning, the pitchers
controlled the runs by tossing some exemplary throws in right areas.
Weeks said, “I managed to hit the ball pretty hard right there and you kind of shock yourself sometimes. Sometimes when you actually hit the ball you don't really see it until you watch the video or somebody tells you.”
The Reds’ batters cut their deficit 5-4 by scoring two collective runs in the eighth and ninth inning. Narveson permitted two runs on seven hits in his six inning pitches and threw with an ERA of 4.75. Narveson allowed two walks and had five strike-outs
on his 96 pitches.
The Brewers led off the four-game series 1-0 after having an exciting win at Milwaukee.
