Rickie Weeks shines as Milwaukee Brewers overpower Chicago Cubs 9-5 – MLB Update
Milwaukee Brewers’ second baseman, Rickie Weeks had a notable day with the bat as he hit one RBI including solo homer and went 3-for-5 in the Brewers’ 9-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Chicago on June 15.
In the first inning, the Cubs scored their first run and led off with 1-0 when Jeff Baker hit a solo homer (403 feet) towards left centre-field. During the second and third inning of the game, the pitchers did not allow any run by throwing the ball in perfect
line.
The Brewers opened their scoring account in the fourth inning by adding two runs and went ahead 2-1. Corey Hart singled to right-field and Ryan Braun posted a single run. Casey McGehee scored the second run of the fourth inning when Jonathan Lucroy singled
to left-field.
Fifth inning went in favour of the batters as both the teams scored individual three runs on their score-cards. Braun and Prince Fielder contributed two runs while McGehee posted one run at the top of the fifth inning. On the other side, Carlos Zambrano
and Starlin Castro added two runs for the Cubs.
McGehee said, “It definitely felt good, especially the way the game started out. I feel like my at-bats have been getting a whole lot better.”
Reed Johnson struck a one-run homer (410 feet) towards left-field and the score-board moved to 5-4 at the end of fifth inning. Sixth inning went score-less due to sluggish shots of the batters. The Brewers’ starter, Chris Narveson was too expensive as he
threw just over five innings with an ERA of 4.48 and allowed four runs on five hits including four earned runs. He was able to strike-out five batters and gave three walks on his 88 pitches.
The Brewers extended their lead 7-4 during the seventh inning when Fielder and Braun both posted two runs again on the drive of Yuniesky Betancourt to centre-field. Both teams scored one run in the eighth inning to move the score-board 8-5.
Weeks hit a solo homer (434 feet) towards left-field to contribute one run for the Brewers while Blake DeWitt scored one run on the single-run shot of D.J. LeMahieu to reduce the lead. However, Fielder posted a single run when Lucroy hit a sacrifice fly
to centre-field and ended the game 9-5.
