Ricky Berens clinches Men’s 200 freestyle title: Day two – Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool
Ricky Berens of USA impressed his fans by occupying gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on concluding day of the 2011 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool in Atlanta on Saturday, December 17.
With his scintillating efforts, the 23-year-old Berens added another title to his gold medal tally. Previously, he occupied the title of Men’s 100m freestyle on initial day of the championship and now he proved his dominance in the 200m discipline.
With his promising efforts, he remained inevitably ahead of his opponents throughout the short course freestyle swim. He was the first swimmer to jump off the starting blocks and ended his initial 50 metres of the swim with a timing of 24.00 seconds. He remained 0.81 seconds ahead of his strongest competitor and team-mate, Matt McLean, who completed his first round in a time of 24.81 seconds.
Berens continued his reign in the next round, where he strengthened his spot for gold medal of the swim by finishing his initial half of the race in a time of 49.95 seconds. He remained 1.43 seconds ahead of his opponent, McLean, who covered his 100 meters of the swim by posting a time of 51.38 seconds.
He continued his smothering efforts in third round of the race, where he hit the wall with a top ranked time of 1 minute and 16.36 seconds. He remained 1.16 seconds ahead of his team-member, who completed his 150 meters of the swim by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 17.52 seconds.
In the final lap, Berens accelerated his efforts and completed his round by submitting a time 1 minute and 42.68 seconds for gold medal. He remained 1.58 seconds ahead of McLean, who reached the podium for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 44.26 seconds. Mclean was traced by his team-member, Conor Dwyer, who earned third fastest spot of the race by ending his swim in a time of 1 minute and 44.45 seconds.
The crowd went wild with Berens’ magnificent effort in the 200m swim whereas the winners were called upon the victory stand for their impeccable efforts after the session.
