Ricky Burns eyes Nicky Cook in their competitive in July – Boxing news
World Boxing Organization’s (WBO) Super Featherweight Champion Ricky Burns is passionate to take his all-British world title defence fight.
The former Commonwealth super featherweight champion, Ricky Burns will be facing the British professional Lightweight contender, Nicky Cook on July 16, 2011 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
It was expected that Burns next possible would be Mzonke Fana of South Africa who has been the former International Boxing Federation’s (IBF) World Junior Lightweight champion in 2007.
Cook had been out of the ring for the last two months when the champion scored the points decision over Youssef Al Hamidi on May 21, 2011 fighting at the O2 Arena, Greenwich, in London, United Kingdom. However, Burns is very much looking forward to his upcoming
fight as he is looking energetic and determine and hundred percent fit for the competition.
Burns has fought 33 fights, won 31 competitive crowns including 8 knockout wins with 2 losses and no draw in his professional career. He said, “This is a massive fight and one which provides the perfect chance to raise my profile in England. I have no problem
with the fight being in Liverpool, and I am quite confident I will take a good few fans down there.”
He added, “But, with Nicky being a former champion and me the current title holder, together with the Scotland versus England rivalry, could make this fight a cracker and one that is already capturing the boxing public’s imagination. I have added more aggression
to my performances and that is something I plan to use.”
Cook has been so impressive since his first-ever professional bout which he fought against Sean Grant in 1998 at the Grundy Park Leisure Centre, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.
Eventually, after winning more than 30 of his consecutive fights cook faced the first ever loss of his career fighting against Steven Luevano in 2007. The second loss came his way in his second last bout when he lost a technical knockout decision against
Roman Martinez in 2009 at the MEN Arena in London.
On the other hand, Burns is also a recognised boxer. It is clear from his past record that although he faced the same number of losses but after those couple of defeats, he has learnt a lot that he has scored 16 consecutive wins.
Let’s see who wins this bout between the two pugilists in July.
