Ricky Duenas to headline ‘Champions of the Tomorrow’ against Lawrence Hughes – Boxing News
Ricky Duenas, the American surging southpaw, will headline ‘Champions of the Tomorrow’ pay-per-view for the very first time against fellow countryman Lawrence Hughes, in a six-round bout which will be held on May 12, 2012.
The event is being promoted by Showdown promotions and will be co-headlined by the non-title four-round lightweight clash between Edwin Solis and Ivan Castellanos. The ring for the Saturday night showdown will be set up at Finish Line Sports Grill situated
in Pomona, California, United States.
Ricky, 29, has been in a total 11 bouts and possesses a clear upper hand over his upcoming opponent, Lawrence. Duenas has been in a total 11 bouts and lost just one to Isauro Tapia.
Interestingly, the clash with Tapia was his career’s debut bout and since then Ricky is on a continuous 10-bout win streak. The southpaw pugilist has collected just four of his total wins by knockout and is coming from an impressive second-round knockout
win over Rufino Flores.
At the moment, Ricky has not collected any heavy duty win that might attract the attention of brawlers who are more experienced than him but still he has one win over Eddie Brooks that is evident of the fact that Ricky is a quality pugilist with a bright
future.
In just 11 bouts he has secured 200th rank in the world rankings whereas his Saturday night opponent, Hughes sits far in the World Boxing Organisation’s welterweight rankings.
Lawrence, 28, has been in a total six bouts and has emerged victorious in four. The important facet that might concern Ricky is his knockout ability. Hughes has pinned three of his opponents by sheer knockout.
A comparison of resume of both men shows that Ricky will not allow Hughes to stay on his feet for more than four rounds since he is not only more experienced but also has a decent knockout and win ratio.
In addition he is a southpaw and if he uses his stance in the most optimal way, a swift early win is definite. Furthermore, the height and the hometown advantage will also aid Ricky in collecting an easy win.
At the same time, the clash is a golden chance for Lawrence to steal the limelight and move up in the rankings but this will require a serious and a totally new level of training and effort.
