Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan and Tony Bellew wish to see David Haye continue – Boxing news
Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan and Tony Bellew want their fellow British star David Haye to postpone his retirement plans, as they think Haye should give it a last try before hanging up his gloves.
David ‘the Hayemaker’ Haye is likely to announce his retirement Thursday, October 13, 2011 in a news conference in London.
The Hitman, Ricky Hatton, who is a former two-time world champion, walked away from the sport after he was knocked out by Manny Pacquiao back in 2009. Therefore, Hatton knows how it feels like to walk away with a defeat. He told the media that Haye should
fight on to secure his legacy and should give it another chance before he retires.
Hatton told The Sun, “David Haye should fight on to secure his legacy. He will be the first to admit he is better than his last performance against Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko. And I have a feeling in my water he might yet give it one last go.”
The currently unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, Amir ‘King’ Khan, and the reigning British and Commonwealth Champion, Tony ‘the Wavertree Bomber’ Bellew, in the meanwhile also expressed
their feelings for Haye.
The 24-year-old Bolton’s finest, Khan, also thinks walking away with a defeat is not something Haye would want to do. Therefore, he is certain that there will be some twist in the story.
Khan remarked, “I'm sure there will be a few more twists and turns in this story of Haye vs Klitschko.”
The 28-year-old Bellew, who is set to take on his bitter rival Nathan Cleverly this weekend, is also hoping for Haye to change his mind, as he believes Haye still has a lot of fight left in him.
Bellew said, “David will be sorely missed if he does retire but I hope he doesn't because he has still got a lot of fight left in him.”
Vitali Klitschko’s manager, Bernd Boente, recently revealed he is in constant contract with Haye’s manager Adam Booth and they are just waiting for a good offer from a British television. So let’s hope Haye reconsiders his retirement plans because a lot
of people still want to see him in action.
