Ricky Hatton: I want people to be proud of me again – Boxing News
Retired British boxing sensation Ricky Hatton announced his comeback earlier today, adding that he wants people to be proud of him again. Hatton, who has been in retirement since the last three years, is hopeful that he can make a strong comeback to the
industry.
“I want people to be proud of me again. I want British sport, my kids and my fans and my friends to be proud of me,” said Hatton while announcing his comeback plan.
“I had my problems but I’m over that now and I want people to look at me in a different light.
“I don’t want people to see how I flushed my life away.
“I understand there’ll be people concerned for my welfare and it’s nice to know there’s so many people care about me, but I think they know why I’m coming back.
Hatton lost his last match against Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao via knockout. The brutal knockout marked the end of Hatton’s career. He was once considered as the best welterweight fighter with a 45-fight unbeaten streak. The streak was broken
by Floyd Mayweather Jr. via knockout and then Pacquiao ended Hatton’s career.
It was an unfortunate event for Hatton, yet he left a legacy for others to follow. Now, the Briton wants to make a comeback, believing he will add to his legacy. While fighters like Amir Khan believe it is a good move for Hatton to come back, his old associate
promoter Frank Warren is against the decision.
Earlier this week, Warren asserted that he is against Hatton’s decision of coming back to the ring as the Briton has nothing more to offer. According to Warren, Hatton has achieved everything he could in the industry and now he could only lose and nothing
to achieve.
On the other hand, WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan is waiting for Hatton’s return, as he is looking forward take on Hatton in his comeback bout. However, there is nothing sure as to whether Hatton will agree to fight Khan or not. Chances
are Hatton will fight Khan to cement his legacy.
