Ricky Hatton: If I could go back and fight Mayweather I would do it now – Boxing News
Former welterweight champion Ricky Hatton will be making his comeback to the ring against Vyacheslav Senchenko soon. While most fans and analysts believe Hatton is still grieving about his losses to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, the Briton reveals
otherwise. According to Hatton, he is over the phase where he would his falling to the two best pound for pound boxers in the world.
“I've let go of the two defeats now,” said Hatton. “It took me so long. I nearly packed up after the Mayweather fight. I wasn't just thinking 'Ooh it's my biggest pay-day, I've got a chance to fight Floyd Mayweather'. At the time I was thinking, 'I'll beat
him'.”
In other words, Hatton has shrugged off all the rumours suggesting rematches against Mayweather and Pacquiao. Moreover, he has also indicated that he will be fighting WBA welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi, if he defeats his opponent in his comeback
fight.
Hatton was knocked out by Mayweather in the tenth, bringing the first ever defeat to the Briton’s career. Later on, Hatton went head to head with Manny Pacquiao and was knocked out in the second round. The two defeats fell heavy on the Briton fighter and
forced him to retire from the sport.
Hatton also spoke of the motivation behind his comeback. According to the Briton, it was not the urge to fight Mayweather and Pacquiao but the want of becoming what he was once. Hatton spoke of his retirement days and how he went into depression and alcoholism.
He recovered well and now he is back at what he does best, and that is boxing.
Chances are that Hatton would go head to head against Paulie Malignaggi for the world title if he defeats Senchenko. Moreover, he is also planning on to face fellow Briton fighter Amir Khan once he has passed Malignaggi. Hatton is planning big but it all
depends upon his return. A successful return can once again take him to the heights of success whereas a lousy return would push him back even further. As Hatton puts it, he has nothing to lose anymore.
