Ricky Hatton evades police charges for white substance abuse
Apparently there are advantages to forgetting.
British boxing hero Ricky Hatton will not be facing legal action following a video published of him snorting a white substance presumed to be cocaine because he can’t remember what it was.
That was what Hatton told police when they interviewed him at his gym this week.
Hatton, from Hyde, was filmed sniffing the lined powder at the Bowdon Hotel in Altrincham by friend and women’s boxing champion Emma Bowe over a month ago.
Bowe went public with the video, saying she did so to help a sinking Hatton. She alleged Hatton took “industrial quantities” of the drug in the haze of a 10-hour drinking marathon.
Police allege the substance was the Class A illegal drug cocaine.
But against Hatton’s word, they have no viable proof it was an illegal substance, so no further action is expected to be taken.
An investigation remains open but police have indicated a conflicting witness report would be necessary to kick-start police work.
The fighter, 32, recently checked into a rehabilitation clinic after the video and images were released, citing alcohol and depression problems.
Those close to the former boxing champ said he was devastated after his last fight, in which superstar Manny Pacquiao knocked him out in the second round.
According to reports Hatton immediately went to a pet shop when released from rehab to buy finance Jennifer Dooley a puppy as recompense for having an affair with Emma Bowe.
That news was also publicized by Bowe, presumably to ‘help’ her friend a second time.
Indeed, buying a puppy is one way to get out of the dog house.
Pictures taken of Hatton upon release show him brighter and lighter, indicating his progress since his voluntary trip to the clinic.
In light of the events the British Boxing Board of Control revoked three of Hatton’s boxing licenses, but allowed him to keep promoting the sport in the country.
