Ricky Hatton finally announced comeback – Boxing News
Retired professional boxer Ricky Hatton has finally announced his comeback plan. Hatton, who kept his plans mysterious for quite some time, has now finally revealed that he will be joining the league once again, to gain respect of his nation and kids.
“It’s been well documented what’s happened to me since the last time you saw me in a boxing ring,” said Hatton. “I suffered a two-round demolition to Manny Pacquiao in my last fight and nobody wants to see their career end that way.”
“Consequently it pushed me into retirement which I never really wanted to do, and what happened to me in the last three years came because of what happened to me in that fight and the manner of that defeat.”
“I don’t want people telling my kids that I blew it. I want my kids to be able to say, ‘He was a world champion, he had his problems, but my did he bounce back’.”
It should be noted here that while Hatton believes it would be better for him to step in the ring instead of being retired, his close associated think he is better off away from fighting now. Promoter Frank Warren, who was once a close associate of Hatton,
has warned Hatton against making a comeback. According to Warren, Hatton does not have anything to prove now, as he already has a set a 45-win, 2-loss legacy.
Hatton has fought 47 opponents in his career. He was leading an unbeaten streak when he fell to unbeaten American fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. Hatton suffered a knockout at the hands of Mayweather. He then went onto fight Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao,
who knocked him out brutally to end his career.
Hatton’s defeat to Pacquiao was his last in-ring performance. Hatton retired a year later from boxing.
Now, the Briton wants to make his comeback to show the world that he indeed is one of the best welterweight fighters out there. Even though he is old, he still has a huge fan following, which is the main reason as to why younger fighters are looking forward
to fight him.
