Ricky Hatton hopes to get boxing license back
Though Ricky Hatton remains unsure about returning to boxing in the future, one thing is clear: he wants his professional license back.
Hatton’s license was revoked in September after pictures emerged depicting him snort what appeared to be an illegal substance.
The British Boxing Board of Control took action to ban three of his four professional boxing licenses, permitting him to remain in the promotional aspect of the sport.
Though Hatton was knocked out cold in his last fight against sensation Manny Pacquiao, rumours continue to suggest he will return to the ring.
A latest batch suggested he and Oscar De la Hoya, retired in 2008, were negotiating a joint-return date in England. The speculations proved unfounded.
“Oscar said he was angry over the story and I don't blame him," Hatton said.
Since retiring, Hatton has kept busy by promoting under his promotional company Hatton Promotions. He will be promoting his brother Matthew’s European title defense November 26.
"I can say it is absolute rubbish. Nothing was ever said to me and right now my main concern is the show we are staging next week.” He continued: “As far as a comeback goes, I am still of the opinion I had 18 months ago. I have no ambition to come back.”
“The Hitman” emphasized: “Even if I did, at this moment in time I am banned by the British Boxing Board of Control so I am unable to make a decision whether I wanted to fight or not.”
Hatton also said that while he agrees with the punishment enforced by the BBBC, he hopes that they will change their position in the near future and allow him to retire of his own accord.
“Although I feel the Board was correct in punishing me, hopefully in time they will offer my licence back and I will be free to make a decision on my future. The Board have banned me but after all I have done in boxing I have the right to retire Ricky Hatton
and nobody else.”
