Ricky Hatton is surprised over Pacquiao vs. Mayweather not happening – Boxing News
Like many other fighters, analysts, writers and avid boxing fans, even Ricky Hatton, former welterweight titlist, is surprised over the fact that a super-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao has not happened yet. According to Hatton, most
boxers strive to beat their rivals in order to acquire glory but he is unable to understand why Pacquiao and Mayweather are not on the same lines.
In a recent interview with Jenna Jay on The Ropes Radio, Doghouse Boxing, Hatton revealed why he thinks both the fighters should have done it by now.
“I am little surprised to be honest, the whole reason I went into boxing was to trying beat the best,” said Hatton. “I became the best in my division junior welterweight, I moved up in weight to try to challenge Floyd, and to become the best P4P, and needless
to say I failed, but nobody can say I didn’t try.”
Hatton lost via tenth round knockout to Mayweather, the current WBC welterweight titlist, and via second round knockout to Manny Pacquiao, former WBO welterweight titlist.
“And If I didn’t want to be the best I could of stayed in my old weight, and could of done that for 2-3 years, but I didn't and I knew Floyd was the best so I moved up 7 pounds.”
The idea of a super-fight between the two fighters has enthralled fans for long enough. However, both the fighters have not been able to come to a deal. Earlier this year, Mayweather was in direct contact with Pacquiao but he could not sort out a deal.
Now, Pacquiao has given the American unbeaten fighter by the end of 2013 to make the fight happen. Pacquiao is ready to take on Mayweather’s conditions, but the latter is still showing reluctance towards the showdown. In his recent interview, Mayweather
asserted that he believes Pacquiao is desperate to fight him as he lost his last fight against Timothy Bradley.
Not just Pacquiao, many others believe that if the fight does not happen in 2013, it will never happen. Probably, fans will have to sleep over the idea that their two favourite boxers are afraid of facing each other.
