Ricky Hatton loses comeback bout against Vyacheslav Senchenko – Boxing News
Former welterweight titlist Ricky Hatton met the tragic end of his legendary career on Saturday night against Ukrainian fighter Vyacheslav Senchenko. Hatton, who was making a comeback to the world of boxing after almost 3 years of retirement, found it difficult
to be in the shoes of a fighter once again. He lost via ninth round stoppage to Senchenko, meeting yet another tragic end of his career.
“I needed one more fight to see if I had still got it -- and I haven't,” said Hatton who immediately thought of retiring again following his Saturday night loss.
Hatton had previously retired from boxing following his career devastating second round knockout loss to Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao. The Briton went into severe depression, alcoholism and drugs. Recently, Hatton came up with the idea of stepping
in the ring again to make his loved ones proud of him. Unfortunately, Hatton could not do much despite giving his best in the ring.
“I found out tonight it isn't there no more,” added Hatton. “I got in the best shape I possibly could but if I hadn't been hit with that body shot I would have just scraped over the line with a points win and I honestly think I would still be telling you
all the same thing.”
Hatton initially seemed in good form, especially in the first five rounds. Despite being out of ring for so long, he managed to lose the ring rust in the initial two rounds and get to Senchenko sooner than most people anticipate. The fight was going good
for the Briton just when the Ukrainian took the lead.
During the ninth round, a huge body shot left Hatton dismantled on the mat. Following the fight results, Hatton revealed that he no longer believes he is a fighter and that his decision come in soon whether or not he wants to fight more.
Prior to the fight, Hatton had asserted regarding plans of fighting WBA welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi and former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan, only if he could pass Senchenko. Now, Hatton is probably thinking of retirement once
again.
