Ricky Hatton picks Amir Khan over Floyd Mayweather – Boxing news
Ricky ‘the Hitman’ Hatton, who is a former two-time IBF and IBO light welterweight champion, has chosen Amir Khan over the five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council world welterweight champion, Floyd Mayweather.
Hatton believes Khan will beat Mayweather if they ever meet in the ring.
The 24-year-old Khan, who is widely known as King Khan, is currently the unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion. Hatton reckons it is only a matter of time before Khan clinches a world title
at 147lbs division.
The 32-year-old Hatton also commented on Timothy Bradley who was stripped off his title for facing Khan. Though Hatton knows Bradley still claims he is the best in the 140lbs division, he disagreed and said Khan is undoubtedly the best fighter.
Hatton told BBC Radio 5 Live, “Amir is looking sensational and has never looked back from that first-round knockout defeat. He's won two world titles now at the light-welterweight division. Timothy Bradley would argue about who is in the number one spot
(in the division), but there's no doubt in my mind that it's Amir Khan.”
Hatton, who lost to Mayweather via technical knockout back in December 2011, admitted Mayweather is one of the most skilled fighters out there yet he backed Khan as he considers his countryman is well on course.
“I was fortunate enough to do that, and I think Amir is well on course to do that. A few years ago, you'd have said 'no, Floyd Mayweather is a step too far', but the way he (Khan) is performing now, it certainly isn't,” remarked Hatton.
The American legend Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather has never been defeated in the ring in the past 15 years and he holds a magnificent unbeaten record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout.
However, let’s see if Khan gets a fight with Mayweather and beats him because it will certainly be a huge victory for the Brit.
