Ricky Hatton says fight with Khan is possible – Boxing News
Former world champion Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton has revealed that a fight with fellow Briton fighter Amir Khan is possible. Hatton is making is ring comeback on November 24 against Vyacheslav Senchenko at the Manchester Arena, Manchester, Hatton’s hometown.
“I think there’s a good chance of me fighting Amir Khan,” said Hatton in an interview with BBC. “Obviously, he is the other big name in my division,” he added.
“He is at his peak. To be honest with you, I’ve still got to prove that I can compete at that level,” Hatton added.
Khan, who lost his last two fights against Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia, is hopeful of making a strong comeback against Carlos Molina. Khan is scheduled to fight in December. However, the date of his match is not decided yet.
Scott Christ reported on Bad Left Hook that a fight between Khan and Hatton would be definitely be a success, considering fans would always be interested in watching the showdown.
“It’s a clash of generations in British boxing on paper, but right now it’s way too soon to actually expect it to happen. We still know nothing about where Hatton is, and Khan is starting a new phase of his career, too,” said Scott Christ of Bad Left Hook.
For now, Khan is eager to revive his career, as his last two defeats have demolished his brand. On the other hand, Hatton, who is making is comeback after almost 3 years, believes he still has a lot left to do in the division.
Even though a lot of former associates of Hatton believe there is nothing the ‘Hitman’ needs to prove, Hatton is consistently pushing the idea.
There were speculations of Hatton fighting former fighter Oscar de la Hoya but it never worked out. Hoya, who suffered the same career end as that of Hatton, tried getting back in the shoes of a fighter but he could not. In his recent interview, Hoya revealed
that as much as he wants to fight, he feels his body cannot take the training and beating anymore.
Hatton is currently thinking of going head to head with some of the most elite fighters in his division.
