Ricky Hatton still not over with Manny Pacquiao’s knockout punch – Boxing News
Former Briton welterweight titlist Ricky Hatton will soon make his comeback after brief retirement tenure. Hatton, who was once thought among the titans of the welterweight division, fell to Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao via second round knockout.
It was a defeat that Hatton has not yet forgotten, and as much as he wants to get over it, it haunts him.
Hatton was defeated by Pac-man in 2009, and the Briton went into retirement the same year. It was the second defeat of the Hitman’s career, the first coming at the hands of American unbeaten fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“I feel I let everyone British sport, British boxing, my community, my home town of Manchester, my family my kids, I feel I've let everyone down with the troubles I've been in,” said the former champion in an interview with The Times.
Hatton is scheduled to make his ring return against Ukrainian fighter Vyacheslav Senchenko on November 24. The Briton hopes to avenge his defeat against Pacquiao but he knows he first needs to set his feet in the ring.
“People say, 'You're being a bit harsh on yourself, you only got beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Manny Pacquiao, the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the world',” added Hatton.
“It's nice to hear but it doesn't matter how many people say 'Rick, you're a legend'. It doesn't mean anything to me because I have the fella that sits on my shoulder every day saying, 'You f***ed up, you let everyone down’.”
Hatton feels his life was ended when Pacquiao delivered the knockout punch. Hatton is in talks with fellow Briton fighter Amir Khan and WBA welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi for possible showdowns next year. However, his former and current associates
are not yet sure if the Briton has enough left in him to step in the ring once again.
While Hatton believes it is time for him to make his fans proud once again, others are of the view that the former champion might just bring more bruises to his portfolio, which currently stands as one of the best in the business.
