Ricky Hatton to get new boxing license – Boxing News
Retired former WBA (Super), IBF & The Ring Light Welterweight Champion and WBA Welterweight Champion Ricky Hatton is looking forward to making a return in the world of boxing. However, Hatton might face some difficulties, as he will need to acquire a new
boxing license instead of renewing his old one.
According to the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC), Hatton will only get a new license if he clears the entire medical procedure.
Robert Smith, secretary general for the BBBC asserted, “He [Hatton] came before the board yesterday. I'm not a doctor but once we get the medicals in, our doctors will look at them. If they are fine they will be signed off. That's all we're waiting for.
“He's been granted it [the licence] pending his medical – so subject to the completion of all his medicals. We've got some parts of it but there are a few parts to a medical.
“We have received some of it but we are just waiting for the rest of it and when we get the rest of it, I presume at the beginning of next week, we'll put it all together and our doctors will consider it.”
Hatton retired from the sport following a career devastating knockout defeat against Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao. Recently, reports of him launching a comeback appeared but nothing was cleared. As of now, Hatton is preparing hard to get in shape in
order to get the license.
Although Hatton is old for the sport, he still have opponents keeping an eye on him. For instance, fellow Briton fighter Amir Khan has welcomed Hatton as a foe for his comeback bout. Since Khan is looking for a super-bout after a knockout loss to American
unbeaten fighter and the now WBA and WBC unified champion, Hatton might just be the best opponent for him.
For now, there is now news as to when Hatton will be making his comeback. Speculations suggest that the former Briton fighter is heading for a fight in December but nothing is official yet. A fight against Khan might be a good career re-launch for Hatton.
