Ricky Hatton wants Frank Bruno to get over depression – Boxing News
Ricky Hatton, former world boxing champion, wants Frank Bruno to get over alcoholism and depression. Hatton, who suffered a knockout defeat to Manny Pacquiao, thinks Frank Bruno is going through a rough patch but he needs to get over it soon and continue
with his life.
In his recent interview, Hatton spoke about Bruno’s condition. According to Hatton, “Frank seemed to have got past his problems and back on the straight and narrow, but now he’s back in a bad place. But the reality is, not everyone comes out of depression
into a bed of roses like me. I love Frank and I pray he pulls through. Depression is a killer. Retiring was a killer for me — almost literally. I had achieved all my dreams, got world titles, an MBE, been told I was the best fighter and earned more money than
I ever dreamed of.”
Bruno, who is currently 50, was diagnosed with bipolar symptoms due to exhaustion recently. Hatton believes he understands what Bruno is going through right now. According to Hatton, retirement was a killer for him as well, as he had achieved all his dreams,
earned world titles and he had earned more money than he could ever imagined. However, Hatton says, one bright day he got knocked out badly and that was the end of his career, which was quite depressing to him. He added that in the initial days of his retirement,
he used sit down on his settee with a knife pressed at his chest.
The former champion says he has now invested all his money into boxing and fitness and he is 5 days a week in the gym training and sharing his wisdom with young fighters. He added that now his ambition to create another British boxing champion. Hatton says
he is proud to impart his knowledge to others and he will be proudest once he finds the next British champion.
For now, Hatton believes Bruno needs to see the brighter side of things and should not mourn over his retirement. According to Hatton, getting over with depression is not easy but once you are out you’ll know how good it feels.
