Ricky Hatton wants Pacquiao and Mayweather to settle scores in the ring – Boxing News
Ricky Hatton, former world champion, believes it is about time for Filipino WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and American WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather to settle scores in the ring. Hatton wants both the pound-for-pound fighters to decide
who is better in the ring.
It should be noted here that earlier this year both fighters tried negotiating a contract for the highly anticipated mega-bout, but nothing worked out. This was the second time both fighters went for dialogues to come out disappointed. Considering the overall
situation and fans’ interest in it, Hatton says that they both need to keep aside their differences and go for it once and for all.
Hatton said, “If you want to be the best then you fight the best and those two should fight each other. I've never been shy of wanting to fight the best and I refuse to believe that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are avoiding each other, and don't want
to fight, because if they are they are sadly not the champions I thought they were. One thing I wanted to do from day one was fight the best. In the ring I know first hand how good they actually are. Floyd Mayweather was the best in my career and I wanted
to fight him. I don't know (if it's inevitable) but it should be a matter of time. That's the obvious thing.”
Hatton is a fighter who has faced both of them in the ring. He went head to head with Mayweather in 2007 and lost in the tenth round by knockout, whereas Pacquiao defeated him in the second round in two years later. Probably, this is the reason why Hatton
is the only person who can comment on how good both of them are.
Hatton added that he does not know what they both are thinking but his opinion is that they should face each other. According to Hatton, they both should face each other now since they are at their peak. Finally, he said that if Pacquiao and Mayweather are
waiting to grow old and are keeping the mega-bout as their last resort then it will not be as exciting as it would be now.
