Ricky Hatton wants to end it on a positive note – Boxing News
Former welterweight titlist Ricky Hatton insists that his comeback is not due to his losses to Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. According to the Briton fighter, he decided to make a comeback to prove himself worthy as a person and not as a fighter.
However, Hatton does admit that winning a world title is still his dream.
“I have no fear about what could happen when I step back into the ring,” said Hatton in an interview with the Sun. “If I get flattened in two rounds again, it will be hard for me to come to terms with.”
Hatton went into retirement following his second round knockout defeat at the hands of Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao. Prior to the Pac-man defeat, Hatton had suffered the first loss of his career at the hands of American unbeaten fighter Floyd
Mayweather Jr. The Brit went into depression and alcoholism right after he retired but no more. Hatton is now looking forward to prove himself against the best in the business.
According to Hatton, he would not be dishonoured if he is knocked by Vyacheslav Senchenko, his comeback opponent, on November 24.
“But the following day I can look in the mirror and say to myself, 'You know what Rick, you needed to put those demons to rest. You got all that weight off, you picked a worthy opponent, you give it your best, now be the best promoter you can be. You should
be proud of yourself'.”
Although Hatton asserts he is not looking past Senchenko for now, reports suggest that the Briton is looking forward to take on WBA welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi, once he is done with Senchenko.
In his earlier interview this week, Hatton asserted that he wants to face Malignaggi and win a world title once again. Hatton believes that the last time fans saw him was a time when he was going through a troublesome life. Now, he wants to prove everyone
wrong, by once again making a mark in boxing.
Hatton will face Senchenko on November 24 to decide whether he will take on the role of an elite fighter once again or go back to his ‘non-boxing’ life.
