Ricky Holloway plans to quit

Ricky Holloway, best known as leader of the Save Our Stow campaign and for his life-long love of hurdlers, is to quit as an owner and trainer at the end of this month.

Holloway said: "The William Hill Springbok will be my last big-race. I'm calling it a day as both an owner and trainer."

"It would be great to sign off with a third Springbok winner and I firmly believe Barnfield Haveit (8-1) has a great chance of doing so."

Holloway was doubly represented in last nights Springbok decider but could only produce a 3-4 finish, a night which saw Royal Honcho (5-4favourite) crowned the new champion.

His main reason for deciding to leave comes down to the way things are currently run in the greyhound racing industry, he feels the Greyhound Board of Great Britain just show a total lack of respect for owners and trainers, and how prize money remains an insult.

He also feels the process of choosing a new chief executive is totally flawed, Ian Taylor resigned last year from the post, it has been said the new chief executive will be announced in around two weeks time.

Holloway had been thinking about quitting the sport for a while now, although, of course, will carry on the fight to get Walthamstow stadium back. Holloway is very pleased with the progress on that front. The 48 year old has run his own kennel operation for three and a half years, has been involved in greyhound racing since he was five-years-old and will leave the sport with plenty of wonderful memories.
