Ricky Kato steals the show at Tasmania golf event
Amateur golfer Ricky Kato finally got off the mark with his maiden victory at the 2012 Country Club Tasmania Open Golf Championship. The 17-year-old was able to steal the show in a convincing manner, with the help of a two-stroke victory.
Owing to the shots he played at 9-under-par, rounds of 67-65-67-76 turned out to be pivotal in sealing his win over Brett Drewitt.
On the other hand, Drewitt scored rounds of 70-69-66-72 at 7-under-par against Geoff Drakeford to secure the second position in the event.
For the third position, it was Drakeford who was able to secure the third position after firing rounds of 68-70-68-72 respectively.
Commenting on his breakthrough victory, Kato said, “The win was a surprise for me. Today was certainly hard and the conditions in the afternoon were challenging. My second round 65 was the key to the championship and overall I was pleased with the way I
played”.
This golf season has particularly been very special for the golfer. He has been able to end up among the top-15 in two key amateur events namely, Riversdale Cup and Lake Macquarie Amateur.
Also, at the South Wales Amateur, Kato was able to cruise into the quarter finals of the event. However, he was not able to proceed further in the championship after getting defeated from his German opponent Marcel Schneider.
According to the Aussie golfer, these events have played an extremely significant role in refining and improving his game to a large extent.
He said, “To come out and be competitive and play well is a great confidence booster. This win certainly adds to my confidence”.
Apart from this, the low round held on the final day of the event was claimed by former amateur champion Blake McGrory.
With the help of his 64 score, the golfer was able to secure the 4th position in the event, as he ended his tee it off campaign at 5-under-par.
Along with this, for the 7th position, Daniel Bringolf and Brady Watt emerged as the main contenders at 2-under-par. Ryan McCarthy was able to clinch the 14th position with 1-over-par.
Experts believe that many of these players will be able to perform well if provided with proper opportunities to materialise their talent and skill.
