Ricky Nolasco is three wins away to becoming the highest number of games winner for Miami Marlins
A record that currently is crowned on Dontrelle Willis is under threat as Nolasco enters the 2012 regular season with just three wins far from becoming a starter with highest number of wins brought to the club.
At the moment Nolasco has 65 career wins record and with couple of great performances in the games down the line, he can rightly add another feather to his cap.
Giving no impression of succumbing to the pressure as the milestone nears, he says he is focused on the play and is thinking more on how to take Marlins ahead in the season.
“It would definitely be nice to be at top of that list whenever it happens, if it happens,” he said. “But it’s not on mind right now.”
In a game against Houston Astros he conceded just two runs but he did not cap the win status despite his side winning the match.
As he discussed the kind of strategy he will follow, he asserted his vigilance on keeping the ball down and not giving walks.
“I’m just trying to keep it going right now,” Nolasco said. “I have to keep getting ground ball [outs] and keep the ball down, no walks.”
Marlins had euphoria in the last few months being supplied from various sources. At first they had their new ballpark constructed, which eliminated their misery they will suffer in their old ballpark from heat and humidity.
Off-season spending spree Marlins observed sent a wave of amazement and anticipatory fascination across the fans.
Now the icing on the cake is in the making as Nolasco prepares to become the only starter in the history of the franchise to have recorded maximum number of wins.
As he prepares ahead, another think on his mind will be the five games suspension of his manager Ozzie Guillen.
The fact that fans are at the moment taking a thorough swipe at Guillen and appear depressed, he can go a long way in making them feel great about the club again.
In-fact all the jubilation fans had earlier on the construction of luxurious ballpark has come to a halt for the moment after Fidel Castro’s episode.
Nolasco will be better off fixing his flaws instead of growing conscious about a prospective joy. It will be interesting to see how he grapples with the pressure.
