Ricky Nolasco pens a three year extension deal with the Florida Marlins
Florida Marlins are looking at a good year in 2011. Their recent signings of Javier Vazquez and a plethora of relief pitchers, means that their preparation for the coming campaign is going well, at the moment. Their objective in the off season was to strengthen
their attack on the mound. Fortunately for the management, things have worked in the roster’s favour.
Nevertheless, a developing story has come through, concerning Ricky Nolasco. The number two pitcher in the rotation was being pursued for a contract extension by the club. The deal however, has now officially been signed. The consistent ball thrower will
be continuing on, as a Marlins’ player, for three more years. Ricky was content with the way things worked out. In a conference call to the general manager Michael Hill, club owner Jeffrey Loria and a block of reporters, Nolasco spoke on the deal. Nolasco
stated,
"I can't even explain how much of a difference it'll be for me. Just to go out there and not have to worry about the whole arbitration process or where I'm going to be, if I'm going to be traded or not. I have confidence I'm going to be here for three years."
The Marlins have apparently signed the pitcher on a $26.5 million deal. The salary will split three ways and a bonus incentive of $1.5 million is also tied into the contract. In 2011, Nolasco will avail a salary of around $6 million. In 2012, the figure
will go up to $9 million. In 2013, his earning base would increase to $11.5 million. The Marlins will be a strong team to go up against in the coming season. Though there are doubts on their play-offs credentials, it’s never the less important to note that
there are powerful pitchers in the team. John Johnson will probably come on top of the rotation. Nolasco would follow and Vazquez would fit into the third spot. Nolasco was effective last season. He posted an Earning Runs Average of 4.51. He availed 14 wins
and nine losses in 26 game-start appearances, during last season. Nolasco expressed,
"I'm not sure how we couldn't be mentioned in that, but I think with JJ at the top of the rotation, I'd put JJ (Josh Johnson) up against anybody in baseball. We got four other guys who can go out there every day and give us a chance to win."
